Combo Waterhole Tour

Located 145km north west of Winton, along the Landsborough Highway, Combo Waterhole is believed by some to be the setting for 'Waltzing Matilda'. Banjo Paterson visited the site in 1895 whilst on a visit to Dagworth Station and later wrote the words to the song that has captured the spirit of Australia.

The waterhole's unique flagstone overshoots were constructed by Chinese labourers to assist the transit of Cobb & Co coaches which served the district at that time.

The turnoff to the Combo Waterhole is well marked on the highway.  The area is protected as a conservation park, so be sure to obey directional signs and leave the area as you found it.  Combo Waterhole is an ideal shaded area for a picnic.

Eighteen kilometres further north west along the highway, from the waterhole, you should call into the small town of Kynuma and enjoy a cold drink at the roadhouse or the famous Blue Heeler Hotel.
